DANCING WIND Samantha Johnson's range of five pieces demonstrate one of the the unique features of Black Ryden art pottery - the unusual shapes. The 2004 catalogue has two-handled vases characteristic of Grecian pottery, geometrical vases, and shapes reminiscent of Persia and 19th century Dutch pottery, yet all have a truly modern feel.

LULLABY Sian Leeper has skillfully created a design that manages to capture movement - but only just enough to gently rock you to sleep! Honey-coloured oriental love-in-a-mist flowers have lolloping sage-green stamens. Even the pebbles from the ground float as if in a trance. This was a difficult design to paint because of the long flowing lines and the myriad of tiny pebbles.

SALSA SWING Sian Leeper's Salsa Swing is full of the rythm and the up-tempo swing of the dance from which it takes its name. Vibrant purple lines follow the fuchsia flowers around, creating a sense of passionate movement. One superb piece remains of this design for a lucky collector to cherish in the future.

SONGBIRD Black Ryden is all about movement and energy. Here Emma Bossons captures the energy of bird song on clay in a series of ingenious devices. Swirling lines represent sound energy and the choice of colours suggest a rich tone. The suffusuion of golden yellow seems to herald a dawn chorus and the opened beak and outstretched wings let the viewer know that the bird is singing its heart out! This design is tipped by many to ba a Black Ryden classic.
