BLAKENEY
Sarah
Brummel-Bailey appeared as a guest designer in the 2001 catalogue with
a limited edition piece entitled "Remember". It was classic
Moorcroft. The Art Nouveau style that heavily influenced William Moorcroft's
early designs as he began his career in the late 1890's, had been given
a fresh and modern interpretation. Sarah's second design was created
for a range of shapes and the inspiration came from the mallows growing
in the lanes near her Norfolk studio during the summer months. Again
the Art Nouveau style is characteristic and the colour palette is fresh
and distinctive, having shades of pink, mauve and sage green.
An unusual feature on this desigh has been the clever use of sgraffito
- incised lines drawn in the clay - to create the veining so characteristic
of this plant. As the colour wash is applied to Moorcroft it typically
accumulates more at the boundary where the tube-lining is applied, but
in this case it is cleverly allowed to build up in the sgraffitoed lines.

DATELINE
SERIES - ROROTONGA - FIJI - MILLENIUM YEAR PLATE
Part of the Dateline series to celebrate the millennium, these pieces
were in production for two years and were very popular aspart of that
collection. The series was created by Emma Bossons and Nicola Slaney following
a visit to the South Sea islands. Rorotonga portrays the green and red
lizard that fell from the ceiling while visiting that island. On Fiji
the Sensitive plant caught Emma's eye. Nicola's Birth of Light Year plate
captures the dawn as the new millennium is celebrated in traditional style.
